New Holland Combine SmartTrax Expand Harvest Window

New Holland, PA (August 31, 2010) - New Holland CR Series Twin Rotor® combine operators can harvest in wet conditions without tearing up their fields with New Holland's SmartTrax, now available for CR Series combine models. The rugged, triangular SmartTrax track system replaces the wheels on the combine's front axle. The proven design uses two 36-inch wide rubber tracks, which reduce ground pressure by as much as 60 percent compared to dual drive tires, with only minimal soil disturbance and less soil compaction.

"Tracks not only increase traction and flotation, they also reduce compaction," says Miles Mackow, New Holland Cash Crop Segment Marketing Manager. "They enable producers to harvest in field conditions where wheeled vehicles can't go. This reduces financial risk to the customer by increasing the window of opportunity for harvest."

SmartTrax have a low pivot point that keeps the center of gravity close to the ground for exceptional stability. A smooth 10 degrees of oscillation allows the tracks to smoothly negotiate uneven terrain, such as levees, swales and ditches.

Smart hydraulics automatically maintains track tension. There's no need to carry additional tools to adjust the tracks. When the header is raised to maximum height or the unloading auger swung fully in or out, the tracks are tensioned automatically. This automatic track tension system also prevents track slippage. Lugs prevent drive slippage between the track and the driving wheel (unlike the chain and sprocket design found on many competitive track systems).

With SmartTrax, harvesting goes faster: the combine maintains its maximum 21 mph speed on the road as it moves from field to field because the track gear ratio is matched to the combine's wheeled ratio. And maintenance is easy: there are no grease zerks and no daily maintenance is needed on the entire track assembly. The quick coupler fitting makes it easy to drain hydraulic track tension oil when changing rubber tracks.

SmartTrax are available as a dealer-installed accessory for Model Year 2010 and earlier CR970, CR9070 and CR9080 models. For Model Year 2011, they are available as a factory-installed option.
